A month to recognize our dedicated leaders

January is School Board Recognition Month, giving our district a chance to recognize the people who lead Georgetown Exempted Village School District.
As the Managing Editor of The Georgetown G-Men Gazette, Iโve been to several school board meetings, and one thing has stood out to me every time: the work our board members do goes far beyond what most people see. Meetings are long, more detailed than you could imagine, and filled with discussions that show just how much thought goes into every decision.
Board members spend time looking over finances, policies, and district needs. They ask questions, talk through concerns, and make decisions with students and staff in mind. What many people donโt realize is that their work doesnโt stop when the meeting ends. School board members are active in the school community, supporting events, listening to feedback, and staying involved with whatโs actually going on in our schools. Their true role is not just to vote on the items on the agenda, but to represent the community, and help guide the future of our small school district.
Being a board member also comes with a lot of responsibilities. From approving budgets to helping select district leadership, their decisions can affect students for years and years to come. From what I have seen, itโs not always easy work, and itโs rarely recognized.
School Board Recognition Month is a reminder to appreciate the people who quietly put in the time to make sure our schools are running well. Weโd like to thank board members Dr. Raymond Virost, President; Jon Linkous, Vice President; Dr. Andrew Ache, Greg Barlow; and Tina Marks, along with Treasurer Eric Toole and Superintendent Brad Winterod, for their continued dedication to our school district.
