Once again, the G-Men showed what they are capable of in their OHSAA Division V District semifinal matchup against Bishop Fenwick on Oct. 27. In an intense, defensive battle, the G-Men were forced to fight until the very end in a game that finished 2-1 in their favor. Bishop Fenwick refused to back down, but the G-Men were clearly just as determined to come out on top.
In the first half, senior Jackson Loudon got the G-Men on the scoreboard, giving Georgetown an early advantage. The game went back and forth for the remainder of the half, with both sides battling for control. The G-Men headed into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead and plenty of game still ahead of them. Right after the break, junior Sir Jones gave G-Town fans what they wanted, finding the back of the net after a beautiful run down the field to extend the lead to 2-0.
However, Bishop Fenwick was not ready to call it quits. The Falcons found the back of the G-Men’s net, bringing the game to 2-1 and adding even more pressure as the clock continued to wind down. Georgetown’s defense rose to the challenge, with senior defenders Collin Bertam and Justin Williams, alongside junior defenders Dylan Holtz and Jones, working hard to keep Bishop Fenwick from finding another scoring opportunity. Senior goalkeeper Jordan Stout also stepped up, keeping the Falcons from scoring again.
The G-Men had to battle until the final whistle to secure the win. Not an ounce of effort was spared as Georgetown continued to show the kind of determination that has carried the team throughout the entire season. In the end, the G-Men held on for a hard-fought 2-1 victory, sending the six seniors off their home field with another meaningful win. Not only did they close out their home field careers with a great performance, but they also punched their ticket to the district finals.
The G-Men will face Troy Christian at Middletown High School in the district finals on Oct. 31 at 12 p.m. With a victory, Georgetown would make history as the first G-Men soccer team to advance to the regional level of the OHSAA tournament. After battling through a competitive district semifinal, this group has shown that the opportunity to make history is well within its reach.
