After the Georgetown G-Men's recent 5-0 shutout victory against the Clermont Northeastern Rockets, the team officially secured the title of “champions” in the National Division of the Southern Buckeye Athletic/Academic Conference. The G-Men last earned an SBAAC National Division title in 2023. With only two matchups to go (as of Oct. 9), the G-Men currently stand at 8-0-1 in the conference and 10-3-1 overall, a significant improvement over last season's 2-5-1 conference record and overall record of 4-13-2. In 14 total matchups so far this season, the G-Men have only allowed 11 shots to reach the back of their own net.
In the Oct. 6 matchup against the Rockets, the G-Men held their opponent scoreless, just as they have throughout the season. So far this season, the G-Men have recorded shutout victories in six of their nine conference matches. The G-Men are scheduled to host the Blanchester Wildcats on Oct. 13 for their last conference match of the season.
In the 5-0 victory over the Rockets, senior Jackson Loudon recorded a hat trick and then some, finding the back of the net four times. Junior teammate Dylan Holtz contributed one goal on the night. Freshman Brently Heindel and senior Jasper Brown each recorded a single assist. In goal, senior Jordan Stout recorded two saves, further contributing to the shutout win.
This year’s league championship carries a special kind of meaning for this year’s graduating class because three years ago, when the G-Men last claimed the title, these seniors were freshmen just starting their high school soccer careers. Brown said, "It's definitely a great accomplishment to have come into high school soccer as league champions and now leave as league champions. I’m glad to have been able to make an impact on the younger kids that are coming up, and I hope that they learned over this season what it takes to be a good team.” “We have a really good group of boys, and I’m hoping that we’re able to go farther into the tournament than we have ever gone in the past and truly make an impact on the school,” Brown said.
Teammate Loudon added, “We have put in a lot of work these past years to reach this point of winning league this year. I am proud of all my guys and how committed they have been this season. I am looking forward to playing with this team in the tournaments, hopefully making a good run.”
With the regular season coming to a quick ending, the G-Men now have their eyes set on tournaments. For these seniors, winning the league title again has brought their high school careers full circle, as they end where they started, as SBAAC champions.
