Socrative

Socrative is a smart student response system that teachers can use to engage their classrooms through a series of educational exercises and games via smartphones, laptops, and tablets. Teachers create a virtual classroom for quizzes and review games. Teachers may also add images to quizzes.

ThreeRing

A gradebook for non-electronic assessment. In other words, paper projects, art, dance, PE, etc. Use the Android or iOS App to snap a photo of written work, capture video of presentations, or record audio of student discussions. You can also upload digital files from your computer.

Quick and easy online tool for cutting a section of an mp3 track. For example, if you want just the opening measures of a song, you can cut the section out and use it. This site also has mp3 joiner and audio file converter.

vocaroo

Make short online audio recordings which can be downloaded as mp3 for inserting into videos. You can also upload mp3 files for embedding in websites. This audio recorder does not allow editing. Very easy to use.

(PC/Mac download) Powerful full-featured sound editor for creating and mixing musical and voice tracks. User interface is simple enough for basic tasks, but powerful enough for professional-grade tracks. Should be used in computer labs.

Garage Band

(iOS $4.99) Record and create music tracks to integrate into projects. Must have iPad/iPod/iPhone to use app.

soundation

Soundation Studio is a powerful tool for creating music online with a more user-friendly for the musically challenged. It is recommended for middle or high school students.

More Advanced (Most Difficult)

Feature rich app that mimics analog sound recording board. Rather complicated online tool and app for creating original music tracks. Allows the user to create music under Creative Commons licensing. Recommended use for musically inclined high school students.

Audio/Video Conferencing

Tools to host online video conversations. These require webcams and microphones, which are often integrated in personal devices. This option is blocked for students but can be accessed during class for teacher/whole class instruction / communication.

Google Hangout

Classes can connect via video with up to 15 other locations at one time for online video conversations. This can be accessed through the teacher Google Chat or Google+ login. (open for teachers only)

Skype
